Discover West

We’re glad you’re here.

Whether you are visiting for the first time, exploring faith, or simply looking to learn more about West Church, this is a great place to begin.

West Church is a community of everyday people seeking to follow Jesus together. For nearly 300 years, we have shared — through word and action — the good news that God loves us and has a purpose for our lives.

We hope as you explore, you get a clear picture of who we are and what matters most to us.

There is a place for you here.

What We Believe

The Bible – We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

The Trinity – We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Lord Jesus Christ – We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

Redemption – We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

The Holy Spirit – We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in the present evil world.

The Resurrection – We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

Spiritual Unity – We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ

West Church Core Values

We value…

Being a place of GRACE – We are people ‘in process’, not perfect, but being transformed into Christ’s likeness. So, we encourage one another to: Welcome someone! ( Romans 15:7).

Delighting in GOD – We gather regularly to glorify and enjoy the Lord. God is on the loose among us and we expect to see Him at work in one another’s lives. So, we encourage one another to: ‘Waste’ time with God! ( Psalm 37:4) because there is no better use of our time.

Doing life together – We experience the life-transforming power of Jesus through loving relationships in many various community groups. So, we encourage one another to: Have a friend. Be a friend. ( Ecc 4:10; Acts 2:42-47).

Doing ministry together – We gather, equip and launch collaborative ministry teams for local and global outreach because we recognize the significance of each person’s contribution toward ministry. So, we encourage each other to: Make serving your team sport! ( 1 Cor 12; Luke 10:1-3).

Following Jesus on a life-long journey – We enjoy discipleship relationships where we receive spiritual nurture and we nurture others because spiritual growth is normal and expected. So, we encourage one another to: Take your next step with Jesus. ( 2 Cor 3:18; Gal 4:19).

Helping others encounter Jesus – We recognize the value that people have to God and intentionally build friendships with non-Christians, being sensitive to God-given opportunities to share Jesus with them. So we encourage one another to: Invest and invite. ( 2 Cor 5:16; Matt 28:19).

Vision Picture

The Haverhill community and people around the world will see how God is moving through West Church. God has pushed us out of the building. He is visibly at work in his people, each one of us is made in his likeness and represents his living presence.

God is working in and through our everyday lives. Our gatherings inspire people for ministry on their frontlines and front lawns, and the experiences of our people from their workplaces and neighborhoods inspire the gathered church!

When people meet someone from the West Church community and experience the supernatural love of Jesus Christ through our kindness and grace, they’re curious, and want what we have: Jesus.

Our church on a hill will be a visible beacon of God's miraculous transforming power at work in this community for loving, healing, and restoring.

A Brief History of West Church

West Church, originally founded in 1735 as the Third Parish of Haverhill, has been part of the life of this community for nearly three centuries. As Haverhill grew, West Parish was established to serve families in the western part of town, and over the years the church became known for its steady witness to the gospel and its deep roots in the Reformed and Congregational tradition.

Through seasons of growth, challenge, renewal, and change, West Church has remained committed to biblical faith, worship, discipleship, and mission. The church has played an active role in local ministry, global outreach, Christian education, and the spiritual life of the wider community. Today, West Church continues that long heritage with a simple desire: to honor Jesus Christ, love people well, and hold out the hope of the gospel for the next generation.
