Lent

A season of reflection, repentance, and preparation for Easter

Lent is a season of forty days beginning on Ash Wednesday (not counting Sundays). The word Lent comes from an ancient word lencten, which means “spring.” The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring temptation and preparing to begin his ministry.

Traditionally, Lent is a time of repentance and preparation for the coming of Easter. It’s a time of self-examination and reflection—a season to do some spiritual “housecleaning.”

Often, the practice of fasting is used as a way to remind ourselves of how we may live attached to things more than God. Giving something up (such as certain food items or habits) can help us become more aware of God’s presence with us.

More than anything, Lent gives us time to examine our relationship with God. We face ourselves in the light of His truth and mercy, remembering that the beauty and joy of Easter first travel through the road to the cross—inviting us into both repentance and hope.

Reflections on Lent

  • Lent is the church season dedicated to falling apart
  • Lent is the season you come clean
  • Lent is the season to reboot
  • Lent is a trust fall into the arms of God
  • Lent is deconstructing into wholeness
  • Lent is when we lay things down to recover what should never have been forgotten

We pray this season brings you a renewed awareness of God’s grace, love, and presence.
