Jesus says to pray.
Jesus says not to look over there. Jesus says to be nice. Jesus says to get up early and read your Bible. Lots of people think Christianity is all about doing what Jesus says. But what if doing what Jesus says isn’t what Jesus says to do at all? Regardless of what you believe. Regardless of how you behave. Jesus invites you to follow him.
Time of fasting and prayer:
West Church is preparing to enter a new season of ministry with the upcoming vote on the calling of a new Lead Pastor. During our continuing dynamic time of transition it is easy for me to get caught up in the day to day preparation and activities, and to forget to give thanks for all the Lord has been and is doing in us individually and as his Body that gathers here, West Church.
We also have a real enemy who would be delighted to distract us, and attempt to derail us from the good things God is doing. Jesus said, “The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy.” (John 10:10)
On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team, I would like to invite you to join us in an intentional discipline that we haven’t practiced very much as a congregation – a day of fasting and prayer. Would you join us on Saturday, October 24th from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm for a period of abstaining from food in order to focus our hearts and minds on what the Lord has done, is doing, and will do in us individually, and as a church body?
We suggest that this be a day for thanksgiving and praise, for requesting protection from the schemes of the evil one, and for the preparation of our hearts to hear from the Lord concerning the calling of a new Lead Pastor.
You can do this wherever you are, but we will also unlock the doors to the church from 7 am until 2:30 pm, so that you may come to a quiet place to pray if you prefer. During the hours of 9:00-12:00, the Quiet Day gathering – “God Provides”, will be held in room 201, should you chose to participate.
May God bless and lead us as we seek Him.
In His love,
Bob Wilson and the SLT
